Assistive Technology
In recent years, we have witnessed the accelerated development of technology and its power to transform the lives of people with disabilities. Using tablets helps people with disabilities in a variety of areas: communication, play, leisure and independent employment and enhancement of cognitive and motor skills.
Based on the extensive knowledge and experience gained at Beit Issie Shapiro in the use of computing and technology, we established the Center for Assistive Technology. The results we see are excellent – increased motivation, better focus and attention, interest and initiative, empowerment of self-confidence and a sense of ability, development of self-efficacy, independent play and more.
The use of technological means for communication allows the user to express his or her voice and allows the communication partner to hear the message. When the message is heard, it resembles our natural way of speaking. The mobility of technological means allows the user to express him or herself in any environment in which they are: at home, at work, in the kindergarten or at school.
The ability to express one’s voice allows him or her to integrate and participate in family, community, and social activities.
The center operates a team of leading professionals in various disciplines: occupational therapy, speech therapists, technology and education professionals and more. Together with you, they will be able to customize the use of technology according to your unique needs.
Upon your arrival, an assessment meeting will be set in which the unique treatment goals of each client and each family will be defined. During your stay here you will receive guidance on how to use technology and adjust accessibility and accessories as needed.
