Speech Therapy

Speech therapy is one of the health professions. It is a paramedical profession, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of adults and children with speech and pronunciation disorders, comprehension or expression disorders, and communication disorders. Speech therapists also specialize in eating problems, such as chewing and swallowing difficulties.

Speech therapists also specialize in adapting assistive and augmentative communication aids (the use of symbols, communication computers, tablets and eye gaze systems) for people who are unable to use verbal communication.

Upon arrival, you will undergo a comprehensive functional assessment in which the patient’s capabilities and communication difficulties will be assessed. Accordingly, a therapeutic plan will be built to address all areas of communication. During this time, you will receive training on how to continue working in your home to develop the client’s language and communication skills. If necessary, you will receive a recommendation on assistive and augmentative means of communication and guidance on how to use them.

If the client has difficulties with eating due to motor disabilities, these difficulties will be assessed and you will receive thorough instruction on proper feeding, the se of accessories and adjustment the food textures and types.

 

We diagnose and treat people with a variety of communication disorders:

  • People after CVA
  • People with head injuries as a result of accidents, tumors and degenerative diseases
  • Children and adults with developmental disabilities such as cerebral palsy, developmental delay, genetic syndromes, autism and intellectual disability
  • People with language difficulties such as dysarthria, aphasia or dysphagia
